[ Home | Media Information ] For immediate release APT3 FOR KIDS! It's exciting, it's educational, it's Kids' APT, launched by the Attorney General and Minister for Justice and Minister for the Arts the Honourable Matt Foley MLA, as a fun addition to the Queensland Art Gallery's Third Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT3). Mr Foley said Kids' APT provides children with a chance to enjoy contemporary artworks especially selected and created for children aged 3-12 years. "Kids' APT aims to enhance the understanding and enjoyment of the artwork on display and increase awareness of cultures in the Asia-Pacific region," said Mr Foley. "Kids' APT will be stimulating, educational and fun for everyone." A specially created Kids' APT icon, the Lucky Dragon, takes children on an exciting adventure of discovery through APT3. Selected artworks within the exhibition are marked with the image of the Lucky Dragon and have easy to read labels with questions designed to enhance childrens' understanding of the artwork. An activity booklet is also available at the Gallery Store for $2.00 and offers an interesting and educational addition to a child's journey through the Gallery. A dedicated activity area provides children with an opportunity to participate in artist-designed activities, make their own artworks, and view works especially created for them by a selection of participating APT3 artists. "The Gallery has commissioned these artists to design activities and create works that provide children with opportunities for interaction," said Mr Foley. Kids' APT also offers an online Gallery to exhibit children's artwork, accessible through the APT3 website. For the online Gallery children are invited to imagine and create their world 'Beyond the Future'. The Gallery has scheduled a series of specialised APT3 activities and workshops for children as part of 'Sunday at the Gallery'. APT3 holiday workshops will also take place. School bookings must be made 15 days in advance to secure a guide, telephone (07) 3840 7255.
