Michel Tuffery
Povi tau vaga (The challenge)
1988

Michel Tuffery has made a family of bulls out of aluminium cans. These once contained corned beef, which is made from cow meat.

The bull sculptures were used in a performance which involved drums, fire and explosives!

People from around the Pacific (from New Caledonia and Samoa) and Indigenous Australians took part in the performance near the Queensland Art Gallery. The performance involved a ‘clash’ or pretend battle between the bulls. The bulls ‘clashed’ like countries do when they compete to sell their goods in the Pacific.
