QUEENSLAND ART GALLERY TO OPEN UP LATE FOR THE PRADO
Live music from leading international and Australian artists, talks on contemporary Spanish culture and the engaging La Sala del Prado space will bring the Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) to life after dark when Prado Up Late opens every Friday night from today to November 2, 2012.

Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art Acting Director Suhanya Raffel said tickets were on sale now for Up Late, a program offered in conjunction with the major exhibition 'Portrait of Spain: Masterpieces from the Prado’.

'Up Late will centre around La Sala del Prado, the large-scale lounge complementing the exhibition with an integrated cafe and interactive spaces reflecting cutting edge contemporary Spanish design,’ Ms Raffel said.

'Up Late commences tonight with a performance by Jae Laffer of award winning Perth band The Panics.

'It continues every Friday with performances on the QAG Watermall stage by Stephen Cummings (accompanied by John Willsteed); Chet Faker; Future Islands (USA); Gentle Ben and His Sensitive Side; Texas Tea; Rob Snarski and Kiernan Box (The Blackeyed Susans); Paul Heaton (The Housemartins, The Beautiful South, UK); and Rick Fights and The Trouble with Templeton.

'On Friday November 2, rising Brisbane star Emma Louise will close the season.’

Ms Raffel said the weekly Contemporary Talks series would invite guest speakers to share their perspectives on Spanish fashion, food and design, and contemporary culture in La Sala del Prado.

A range of tapas and selected Spanish beers and wines are available during Up Late, and all day from La Sala café throughout the exhibition.

'Portrait of Spain: Masterpieces from the Prado' is the first collection of work from Madrid’s esteemed Museo Nacional del Prado to visit Australia. It draws on the Prado’s extensive holdings and surveys the development of painting in Spain over three and a half centuries through 100 major works by leading Spanish and foreign artists working in Spain between 1550 and 1900.

Prado Up Late is a separate ticketed event and includes entry to the exhibition.

Tickets are on sale via qtix.com.au for Prado Up Late, with doors open from 5.30 to 10.00pm every Friday from August 31 until November 2.
