Message from the Chair
I write having just enjoyed the fantastic opening
weekend of the much-anticipated exhibition,
‘The 6th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary
Art’ (APT6). Once again, the Gallery is alive
with a tangible sense of excitement, openness
and wonder that only an APT can generate. The
December opening of APT6 served as a fitting
end to another fascinating and successful year
at the Gallery.
Prior to APT6, the major international exhibition
‘American Impressionism and Realism: A
Landmark Exhibition from the Met’, and the
Gallery’s showcase of its contemporary Chinese
collection in ‘The China Project’, took top billing
in terms of profile during the year. The richness
of the Gallery’s programming extended deep
into the strata of the institution, with a great
range of exhibitions presented along with
interpretive programs and publications. This
richly illustrated issue of
Review
gives a great
wrap-up of the year that was.
It’s my pleasure to thank and acknowledge
the many individuals and institutions who
continued to show unwavering support to the
Gallery during the year: first and foremost,
the Premier of Queensland and Minister for
the Arts, Anna Bligh,
MP
; the Queensland
Government and Arts Queensland; fellow
Trustees; Tim Fairfax,
AM
, President of the
Queensland Art Gallery Foundation and
benefactor, and Foundation members; and
our many corporate sponsors and supporters
(details on pp.82–86). I acknowledge the
ongoing work of the Gallery’s Director Tony
Ellwood and Executive Management Team
members Andrew Clark, Lynne Seear and
Celestine Doyle, and pay tribute to the
consistent dedication and enthusiasm of all
the Gallery’s staff and volunteers. Finally,
I thank you for taking the time to peruse this
publication and learn more about the Gallery.
I hope to see you in the exhibition spaces soon,
soaking up art, culture and life.
