APT3 opened on Thursday 9 September 1999 with a range of celebratory events. Many participating artists and curators were in Brisbane to be part of the opening. Key events included a major Conference (10-12 September 1999), artists' performances and talks by artists and curators.

Screen Culture was an ongoing curated program of short films, animation and video works by contemporary artists and producers in the Asia-Pacific region, selected by a panel of national and international curators. The program screened during the entire exhibition.

Visitor programs, online and in the Gallery, offered opportunities to engage with artists and their work. Access to current journals, publications, videos of artists' talks and performances were available on site in the APT Lounge.

Education programs were conducted for primary, secondary and tertiary students, including teachers' previews, guided tours, slide sets and lectures, as well as substantial education kits developed in consultation with Education Queensland and distributed nationally.

Kids' APT , designed for children 3 - 12 years, featured works by APT3 artists developed specially for children's interaction and enjoyment.
