Peopled: Contemporary
Art from the Collection

New acquisitions were profiled in ‘Peopled:
Contemporary Art from the Collection’, a
display reflecting how artists and audiences
continue to be fascinated by the human form.
Paintings, sculptures, videos and installations
were featured, including Ron Mueck’s
monumental sculpture

Frog boy’s dissertation into a new
karaoke cult
2008.
Painted with the collaboration of commercial
billboard painters in the Philippines, Griggs’s
work celebrates the figurative traditions of that
country. It was purchased with assistance from
the Melbourne Art Fair Foundation. ‘Peopled’
also included a group of paintings and videos
by artists from India, Thailand, the United
Kingdom and Australia.
The Julian Opie work (pictured left) was
purchased for the Collection with funds from
the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation through the
Queensland Art Gallery Foundation.
