Public programs
Public programs bring the Gallery
to life — providing a platform for
education, insight and the exchange
of ideas with our audiences.
In 2009, events such as artist and curator talks,
guided tours, performances and lectures from
visiting academics and experts continued
to offer richly layered experiences for those
wanting to delve deeper into the Gallery’s
Collection, exhibitions and film programs.
Special opening weekend programs celebrated
the launch of major exhibitions such as
‘The China Project’, with talks by visiting
international artists Wang Qingsong, Zhang
Xiaogang, Wilson Shieh and others. These were
accompanied by curators’ talks and a focus on
histories and storytelling in Chinese art.
Following the ongoing success of programs
developed for specific audiences — such as
children and families, teachers and students,
youth, and tertiary students — in 2009 the
Gallery launched the My Gen program for people
over 50. Recognising that age is an attitude for
any generation, My Gen provides a range of
events for people wanting to gain knowledge
through cultural and leisure activities.
