LloydRees:EarlyBrisbaneDrawings
(92pp.)
explored Lloyd Rees’s works drawn from the
Gallery’s Collection and those gifted to the Gallery
by the artist's son and daugther-in-law Alan and
Jan Rees.
The Gallery published a number of titles on
Australian artists in 2011 including
Art,Loveand
Life:EthelCarrickandEPhillipsFox
(176pp.). The
first to consider the artistic partnership of this
husband and wife artist couple, this publication
received favourable reviews as a significant
contribution to Australian art history.
Surrealism:ThePoetryofDreams
(328pp.), the
first English-language publication on the Centre
Pompidou’s important surrealist collection, focused
on the literary associations of the Surrealism
movement with essays by Didier Ottinger, Deputy
Director of the Centre Pompidou, key texts by the
surrealists and an illustrated chronology.
The remarkable range and depth of the Torres
Strait Islander collections and programs of the
Cultural Centre institutions located at South Bank
were foregrounded in the significant publication
TheTorresStrait Islands
(320pp.), published in
collaboration with the State Library of Queensland,
Queensland Museum and Queensland Performing
Arts Centre. Not since Margaret Lawrie’s
Mythsand
Legendsof theTorresStrait
(1970) has there been
such a substantial publication on the stories and
cultural achievements of the Torres Strait people.
