Annual Review 2012 - page 84

The Queensland Art Gallery Foundation is dedicated to
the development of the Gallery’s Collection, exhibitions
and programs. We sincerely thank all contributors to the
Foundation in 2012, and acknowledge the vital role they
play in the continued growth and success of QAGOMA.
In 2012, the Foundation Appeal
secured funds for the acquisition of
a group of rare, historical Aboriginal
objects from Queensland. We thank
everyone who generously contributed
to the appeal.
The Gallery continued to benefit
in 2012 from the leadership and
patronage of Foundation President,
Tim Fairfax,
AM
, through his
support of major contemporary art
acquisitions, as well as support from
the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation
for children’s programming, touring
and publishing initiatives. We thank
Tim Fairfax,
AM
, Gina Fairfax and
their family for sharing the Gallery’s
vision to make art accessible to the
Gallery’s varied audiences, and for
their outstanding generosity which
makes this vision possible.
In April 2012, Galleries 10, 11, 12
and 13 (QAG) were named the
Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert
Galleries, in honour of one of our
greatest benefactors, Win Schubert,
whose gifts this year included the
acquisition of Yayoi Kusama’s
Flowers
that bloom at midnight
2011 and the
donation of a significant collection of
works by Ian Fairweather, many of
which featured in the exhibition
‘Ian Fairweather: Late Works
1953–1974’. We are truly grateful for
Win Schubert’s inspiring generosity.
Special thanks go to Foundation
Council Members James C Sourris,
AM
, and Paul Spiro, who continued
to support the Gallery throughout
the year. We would also like to
acknowledge the significant gifts,
bequests and donations the Gallery
received in 2012 from from Phillip
Bacon,
AM
; the Margaret Olley
Art Trust; Yayoi Kusama; James
Mollison,
AO
; Henry Bartlett,
