 | | Don Heron grew up around Mackay in central Queensland. After moving to Brisbane to study, his early paintings explored the landscape of the city and its suburbs. |
 | | During the last few years, he has painted the Granite Belt country near Stanthorpe. From his first visit, he was attracted to this temperate region’s highly distinctive topography and vegetation. |
 | | An expansive panoramic format combined with an attention to detail creates the feeling of being inside the forest. He is interested in the changing colours of the seasons and the naturally occurring geometric patterns formed by fallen trees and patches of sunlight. |
 | | Looking closely at the land and painting in situ in the bush is his way of trying to see and represent that ever-changing countryside. |
