Excerpt from artist statement
Over the past four years I have painted various views based around identifiable landmarks in this region. My most recent works, however, mark a shift in emphasis to focus on a more intimate engagement with my surroundings by exploring, at close range, the interior of the native forest. I regularly spend time walking through the bush making drawings and looking for things which might suggest ideas for paintings. These might include the quality of light present at different times of the day and at different times of the year, the natural arrangement of the trees or the fallen debris on the forest floor.
