Don Heron was born in Mackay in 1970. He completed a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) degree at the then Brisbane College of Advanced Education in 1989. In 1992 he received the Queensland Art Gallery’s Melville Haysom Memorial Art Scholarship. In 1995 Heron was awarded the National Australia Day Council’s Artist-in-Residence Program at Bundanon. His work was included in the Queensland Art Gallery travelling exhibition, ‘The Urban Edge’ in 1997–98 and the 1998 Wynne Prize Exhibition at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
