Pacific in the two decades since the
inception of the APT in 1993.
The quarterly
Artlines
magazine for
Members and supporters continued to
present engaging writing and reviews
focused on Gallery exhibitions and
Queensland culture.
Following the success of the Gallery’s
children’s publications
21st Century
Art for Kids
,
Surrealism for Kids
and
Drawing Life for Kids: My Art Journal
,
two titles were developed in 2012:
Portrait of Spain for Kids
and
Hahan
and Friends
.
Portrait of Spain for Kids
(76pp),
published in conjunction with
the exhibition ‘Portrait of
Spain: Masterpieces from the
Prado’, presented historical and
contemporary Spanish culture in
a format that was engaging and
accessible to children. A loveable
mascot, Pepe the rabbit, guided
children through the book, which
included full-colour plates of selected
art works, activities and interesting
facts about the artists and their
works in the exhibition.
Launched to coincide with APT7,
Hahan and Friends
(56pp) was
the first of the Gallery’s children’s
publications to focus on the work of
a single artist. Emerging Indonesian
artist Hahan (Uji Handoko Eko
Saputro) collaborated with the
Gallery to develop the book that
explored his life and art, and included
fun art-making activities for children
to do at home or school.
In 2012, the Gallery’s children’s
publications
Portrait of Spain for Kids
,
Surrealism for Kids
and
Drawing Life
for Kids: My Art Journal
also received
several industry awards.
The children’s publishing program is
an initiative of the Gallery’s Children’s
Art Centre, and has been generously
supported by the Tim Fairfax Family
Foundation.
