/ REVIEW 2012
In 2012, lectures, tours, talks,
conversations, workshops,
performances and special events
encouraged visitors of all ages to
explore the Gallery’s exhibitions,
displays and programs.
Major opening weekend events
were developed for ‘Contemporary
Australia: Women’, ‘Portrait of Spain:
Masterpieces from the Prado’,
and ‘The 7th Asia Pacific Triennial
of Contemporary Art’ (APT7).
Encouraging audiences to engage
with exhibiting artists and leading
experts, opening weekend events
continued to attract high audience
participation.
A third series of GOMA Talks
was held in conjunction with
‘Contemporary Australia: Women’.
Exhibition partner, ABC Radio
National provided guest hosts
for GOMA Talks, who led evening
discussions with all-female speakers
including exhibiting artists and
special guests. The program was
also live-streamed, enabling further
discussion through social media
platforms. The Audi GOMA Bar
was open for after-hours programs
including GOMA Talks.
The Gallery’s Up Late program
continued in 2012 during ‘Matisse:
Drawing Life’ (GOMA); ‘Portrait of
Spain: Masterpieces from the Prado’
(QAG) and a special one-night-only
Up Late performance for APT7’s
opening weekend (QAG & GOMA).
Now in their fourth year, over
100 000 visitors have attended
Up Late events at the Gallery.
Specially developed programs
continued for My Gen 50+, New Wave
Teens (13–17 year olds) and New
Wave Emerging (for young artists,
curators and writers).
An integral part of the Gallery’s annual calendar, public programs and events
provide unique opportunities for audiences to engage with art and ideas.
