Worksheets and teacher notes
were developed for the exhibitions,
‘Modern Woman: Daughters and
Lovers 1850 – 1918: Drawings
from the Musée d’Orsay, Paris’,
‘Contemporary Australia: Women’,
‘Portrait of Spain: Masterpieces from
the Prado’, ‘Sculpture is Everything’
and ‘The 7th Asia Pacific Triennial of
Contemporary Art’ (APT7). Resources
such as these are developed to assist
teachers and students interpret each
exhibition’s themes and provoke
investigations for self-guided visits.
These richly illustrated resources
make links to the curriculum and are
invaluable for on-site and post-visit
discussions and activities.
The Gallery’s professional
development Look Out program for
teachers involves forums, curatorial
talks and hands-on workshops
with artists. During 2012, Look Out
events were hosted for educators
for ‘Matisse: Drawing Life’, ‘Yayoi
Kusama: Look Now, See Forever’,
‘Contemporary Australia: Women’
and ‘Portrait of Spain: Masterpieces
from the Prado’.
Education staff meet regularly with
a teacher focus group who provide
feedback on the Gallery’s resources
and programs, ensuring the resources
meet curriculum requirements
and can be readily integrated into
a classroom context.
Volunteer Guides play a vital role
in building relationships between
the Gallery and our visitors and
we gratefully acknowledge their
wonderful contributions. This year,
we welcomed 29 new volunteer
guides who graduated from a training
program in late 2012.
The Gallery’s education programs and resources enriched
learning experiences for students of all ages, while also
addressing cross-curriculum teaching priorities.
