more than 1.4 million visitors attended the
Qag and goma in 2011. while attendances
across the gallery’s two sites are not at
the same level as the exceptional 2010
attendances, we have nonetheless exceeded
expectations again this year. we were
anticipating attendances figures would be
down, as both buildings were closed for five
weeks after the January floods in brisbane.
it is incredible to note, that in the two weeks
prior to the closure, goma alone attracted
over 102 000 visitors to the ‘21st century:
art in the First decade’ exhibition.
this year our exhibitions, workshop and ‘on
tour’ program travelled to 66 regional venues,
and attracted over 37 000 visitors. while local
audiences participated in an array of popular
public programs including goma talks; Up
late; my gen 50+ and new wave. over
40 000 school student attend the gallery
this year and our gallery membership is up
by over 300% since goma opened in 2006.
we are constantly looking for new avenues
to develop stronger connections with our
audiences, and have been particularly
focused on online audiences. our online
dialogues have grown significantly in recent

years, through social media, websites and
web streaming. we have been overwhelmed
by the positive responses we have had to past
virtual forums and are continuing to develop
new and innovative ways to attract and
interact with our audience.
