henri cartier-bresson (1908–2004),
the French photographer who redefined
photojournalism and photography as an
art form, was celebrated in an exhibition
at the Queensland art gallery — exclusive
to australia.
the exhibition was presented in conjunction
with magnum photos, paris and the henri
cartier-bresson Foundation and featured
over 260 photographs, originally selected
by cartier-bresson and publisher–friend
robert delpire for an exhibition at the
bibliothèque nationale de France, paris,
in 2003.
cartier-bresson is responsible for some
of photojournalism’s most iconic portraits
and images, many of which have become
defining records of modern history.
